Cool stuff for Christmas

The family of Jabłkowscy is famous in Warsaw for their very long traditions of trading goods. One of the biggest stores in the capital has recently come back to its pre-war owners. Its a big media store but the Jablkowski Brothers company decided to organise a Christmas market in the ground floor of the store. High quality food, including fresh apple juice (Polish specialty!), very imaginative snacks and cookies (red beetroot chutney from La Koguta made us just cry in happiness) and supercool Warsaw souvenirs from HelloWawa (pepper mill in the shape of Palace of Culture and Science!) are all there, just in the city centre. While  you’re there,  see the beautiful stained glass decoration at the staircase on the first floor.

Jewish jazz

Shofar is a trio combined of top of the tops Polish jazz musicians:Mikołaj Trzaska, Raphael Rogiński and Macio Moretti. In this project they explore tradition of chassidic music using the free jazz forms. Some of the compositions are based on the traditional mystic chants, the others follow the  joyful melodies which were meant to make people dance in extasy while praising God. Very postmodern, yet traditionaly based. Highly interesting and original.

Best food in town!

This year, the title went to Jung&Lecker, a wine bar serving delicious weekday lunches (for 21 PLN between 12 and 4 PM) with regular menu changing every week (!). Go see for yourself what the town is raving about and check their FB postings (through google translate) to know the lunch of the day. But hurry while the food lasts (lunches might run out by 3 PM). And if they do run out of lunch, be sure to try pear soup with saffron milkcaps instead!
