NYC inspired indie rock from Mazury

Giżycko is in Mazury, the Polish lake district, and it also claims to be the coldest city in Poland (even though Suwałki seems to be in the lead;). The Sunlit Earth, apparently, convey their dreams in the name of their band and the legend has it that they started playing together preparing for the coldest winter of the century. Shouldn’t they be more into cold wave then, or something?:) Anyway, if you’d like to listen to what Polish cold-indie-rock is, see them live at Barometr this Tuesday!

#EXHIBITION

Creative recycling

Ok, there are a few things to explain. ‘Przetwory’ is a Polish word meaning ‘preserves’. It comes from the verb ‘przetwarzać’ which means ‘to process’ or ‘transform’. Now you get the word play of the exhibition title: Przetwory is an annual event when designers present their ideas for creative recycling. Królikarnia is a palace in a former rabbit hunting area (hence the name: ‘królik’ is a ‘rabbit’), now a branch of Warsaw’s National Museum devoted to Xavery Dunikowski, early 20c Polish sculptor. So as you see, there are at least two reasons to visit Przetwory!

#MUSEUM&PARK

See a royal summer residence!

Jan III Sobieski was the Polish king who stopped the Ottoman army in the battle of Vienna in 1683 – but when he was not fighting, he made sure his life in Warsaw was comfortable, building a French-Polish palace in Wilanów south of the official royal castle. See the beautiful summer residence of the king and be sure to stroll through the equally impressive gardens! This is one of the few museums open on Mondays. Bus 180 takes you there directly from the city center (Castle Square in the Old Town or Foksal/palm tree)

Where: Muzeum Pałac w Wilanowie

Map: click to open

When: from 9:30 to 6PM on Mondays&weekends, to 8PM on Wednesdays, to 4 PM on all other days
