Award-winning „Ida” critics are raving about

Let’s yield the floor to one of them, Joe Morgenstern of the Wall Street Journal: In Mr. Pawlikowski’s “Ida,” set in communist Poland in 1962, the heroine of the title is a young orphan about to take her vows at a convent. Before she does, she’s sent to see her only living relative, an aunt who informs her that they’re both Jewish. If the plot sounds schematic, the film is anything but. It’s another odyssey, also in black-and-white, a trip taken by niece and aunt to find out what happened to Ida’s parents during World War II. The literally square screen—so figuratively square as to seem revolutionary—is often bottom-weighted: space at the top, heads and shoulders down below. The result is a sense of flesh-and-blood people firmly grounded in their environments. “Ida” is a testament to how much more less can be, and to the power of impassioned performances. Stripped of superfluous technique, this exquisite feature explores national as well as personal identity, and the need for belief in a bewildering world.
The screenings listed below are with English subtitles.

Polish alt-legend

Ścianka is a true alternative legend in Poland. They’ve been around since mid-1990s, have released 4 albums and a handful of EPs. Their music is often described as combining pre-punk energy with free-jazz madness. But, if they only wanted, they could also be nationwide-popular popstars, as their songwriting skills are truly amazing. Check the song below!

Anecdotes on contemporary art

Microhistories
given on the pieces of art from the perspective of their storage, creation or preservation letto give the painting a new or additional meaning.Sometimes it’s the story behind which make them interesting at al The works presented in the Microhistories exhibition in Królikarnia are joined only by the fact they’re from the collection of Modern Art and the curators had some curio, visual associations or formal analysis on it to sahre with the audience- far away from conventional , isn’it?

Królikarnia is a palace in a former rabbit hunting area (hence the name: ‘królik’ is a ‘rabbit’), now a branch of Warsaw’s National Museum devoted to Xavery Dunikowski, early 20c Polish sculptor. So as you see, there are at least two reasons to visit this exhibition!
