Creative recycling

Ok, there are a few things to explain. ‘Przetwory’ is a Polish word meaning ‘preserves’. It comes from the verb ‘przetwarzać’ which means ‘to process’ or ‘transform’. Now you get the word play of the exhibition title: Przetwory is an annual event when designers present their ideas for creative recycling. This weekend U can not only observe how is it done but also join several workshops or buy some of those unique and sometimes extravagant items.

The event takes place in the Soho Factory is a pre-war post-industrial compound in the Praga district turned into a fancy and modern harbor for artists, designers, architects and all those who are looking for something unique, contemporary and historical at the same time. Interested?

Winter expose

In  a last few years the number of galleries in Warsaw has doubled. Many of them are by young enthusiasts of art who cannot invest much or are not interested in earning loads of many on a single painting so they promote aspiring artists, altough not yet big but very often fresh, experimental and highly inspiring. Not only the works of mor than 70 modern artists are worth a visit to a Winter Gallery Weekend but also the venue that hosts the event. Branicki Palace’s history dates back to barocco times and altough it was destroyed during WWII, carefully reconstucted is an impressive location

#DRINK

Mulled beer, anyone?

Varsovians have many ways of beating the winter cold – we put on layers of clothes, try not to go out if we don’t have to, eat soup (esp. Vietnamese pho), drink Wedel hot chocolate or… drink something stronger. And while the ice-cold vodka is one option, most go for beer to spend more time in the warmth of a bar. And in wintertime, beer is just better when it’s warm, and flavored with spices like cloves and cinammon as well as ginger syrup! The bar at Solec 44 specializes in homemade mulled-beer syrups, but you’ll be able to order this typically Polish winter drink anywhere. Make sure you ask for grzane piwo (gzha-neh pivo)!
