A night to steal someone’s wreath

The shortest night of the year has been celebrated in Poland even after Christianity was embraced as a main official religion and people were supposed to focus on the holiday on St. John, not pagan beliefs of fertility. It was a time to enjoy nature, youth and love, but also time to become part of untamed chain of natural forces in the cycle of life. What was usually forbidden could happen on that night. A wreath, a symbol of purity, worn by maidens, could be easily lost, when both men and women danced around the bonfires, singing, drinking and playing hide and seek in the woods. One of the traditions was also to throw your wreath into the rivers which was a way to tell one’s fortune. A modern version of such celebrations is planned for Saturday – a huge open-air gig of a few very popular bands – rock legend Hey, blues legend Dżem and superdooper crazy hardcoretechnofunk Łąki Łan.

Buy independent music directly from their producers!

Independent and “alternative” record labels are becoming increasingly popular, but it is sometimes hard to find their recordings, especially in one place at the same time. This Saturday, around 30 record studios representing Poland’s music industry at its best will present their offer at the Palace of Culture and Science during the 3rd edition of Independent Record Labels. This is not simply going to be a buy/sell event. The finest DJ’s will perform live and, if you feel like, you can try to show off with your DJ skills! The first edition of the fairs turned out to be a great success. Every next is even better!
