#MUSEUM

3D pics and a strange machine

The Warsaw Photoplasticon – a huge machine designed in the 19th century that shows 3D pictures – is definitely a must-see ! After all, only a few of those fascinating devices have survived until the 21st century and the one we have in Warsaw has been operating in the same place for over a 100 years!!! As a Christmas present, throughout December you’ll have the chance to see some of the best archival photos taken in Warsaw over the past century under the title “Warsaw that is no more”. A great visual aid to what you learn on our tour!

#DRINKING

Multi-tap Polish style

As we are still digesting Christmas dishes and have no energy to think about food, here are some recommendations for a great Polish beer-drinking experience! 2013 has seen a new drinking trend emerge in Warsaw – i.e. bars offering a choice of artesan beer taps. We’ve recommended Cuda na Kiju in the past, this time we encourage you to check out any of these three: Piw Paw („Beer Peacock”) boasts the biggest selection with over 60 (Polish and not) beers on tap and uncountable more in bottles. If you’re overwhelmed with the choice, ask for a tasting glass (1zł) or a beer tasting board (6 beers in 100 ml glasses). Kapsle Kufle are basically around the corner and are a bit more upscale in decor, offering a more pleasant drinking experience. The bartenders are very knowledgeable, so don’t be shy and ask them for recommendations! Finally, Chmielarnia (Hops House) is a bit off the beaten path, but very much worth a visit as they offer beers from one of our favorite Polish breweries Artezan (check out wheat Aphrodite and darker Hermes!) AND a really decent selection of Nepali and Thai dishes… just in case you do get hungry. The bar is hidden in the basement of the Warsaw Fishing Association. Happy drinking!

#PARTY

Beats, rhythm and life

After three days of celebrating Christmas, most Poles are at least a few kilos heavier – so it’s time to shake off that excess weight on the dancefloor! Powiększenie will be helping achieve that aim by organizing daily parties throughout the post-Christmas week. On Friday, DJs Buszkers, Flirtini and Mentalcut will play some of the best of what they call drum-n-joy– expect to hear at least a few Polish hits, as the party’s motto “You were my heart’s beat” is taken from one.

Where: Powiększenie, ul. Nowy Świat 27
