#DRINK

World’s best hot drink… at least according to Varsovians

This week has been crazy weather-wise, beginning with scorching heat turning into what seemed like eternal downpour mid-week, and now the forecasts for the weekend are sketchy: it may rain, it may be sunny. Either way, you deserve a treat, especially if you’re after a day of sight-seeing! Ask any local and you’ll learn that the best chocolate is made by the Wedel company here in Warsaw, Poland. The company was founded back in the first half of 19th century and is famous for many other products including Ptasie Mleczko chocolate-covered marshmallows, mieszanka wedlowska candy mix and Delicje szampańskie cookies (you can stock up on them in the flagship store at ul.Szpitalna 8, right next to the cafe)
To have a real hot chocolate drink (and not just cocoa or liquidy pudding), head for the imperial-style cafe in the chocolate factory’s former location located smack in the city center. 12 PLN gets you a cup of chocolatey bliss. Have a window seat to people-watch. Smacznego/bon appetit!

Where: any Pijalnia Czekolady E.Wedel (E.Wedel chocolate drinkery), original one at Szpitalna 8 esp. recommended!

#PARTY

Two party options, depending on the weather!

1500 m for rent is the name of one of Warsaw’s best clubs – and this Friday, they’re branching out and opening a venue on a beach by the National Stadium, called Plażowa (The Beach Café). Two stages, a host of DJs and Polish bands (like the awesome Eric Shoves Them in His Pockets!) make this party the-to-be event of the evening… unless it rains, of course. In case of the latter, head for original 1500m for a party on the club’s patio –you’ll be taken out of this world by audiovisual treats prepared for you by the likes of Alan Moore and Deadbeatz. Rain or shine – who cares, a good party guaranteed!

Where: rain: 1500 m do wynajęcia, ul.Solec 18, no rain: beach in front of the National Stadium, to the left of Poniatowski bridge
Map: click to open
When: from 11pm on Friday, May 30
How much: 25/30/35

#EXHIBITION

Changes in Warsaw captured on camera

John Vachon was an American photographer who worked for the government of the USA. He came to Poland three times: in 1946 to capture how the people had survived the apocalypse and would restore the city from ruins, in 1956 to observe the development of the communist city and in 1963 to catch a glimpse of a country behind the Iron Courtain. He portrayed the faces of random workers and stunning actresses, the damage done in the city during the WW II and the impressive silhouette of the Palace of Culture and Science which looked like a structure from outer space in the poor, destroyed city (rare colour photographs from that period!). See how this city had been changing a few decades ago!
Where: Dom Spotkań z Historią (History Meeting House), ul. Karowa 20
Map: click to open
When: Tue-Fri 10am-8pm, 11am-8pm on weekends
How much: free admission
