What’s up Warsaw? WEDNESDAY, 31 July 2013

Film and wine

Underground, an international award-winning movie directed by Emir Kusturica is an epic story of two friends. Through their eyes we observe the life of former Yugoslavia, from World War II to the Balkan Wars. The film provides a mixture of emotions, from laughter to tears. If you haven’t seen the film, don’t miss it this Wednesday in Temat Rzeka, a popular club by the Vistula river. Apart from watching the movie, you will also have the opportunity to taste Portuguese wines. All this outdoors, under the stars.

Hokei – a new hope

Hokei is a band that perfectly blends rock in opposition, noise, kraut and post rock, turning all those strange sounding genres into an exciting and successful musical experiment. The band’s concerts always turn into great parties. This Wednesday, they are promoting their first album ‘Don’t Go’ at the Cafe Kulturalna club in the monumental Palace of Culture and Science. So, if you want to feel like on a Saturday night on Wednesday, don’t miss this event!

Everything but chicken breast

Feel like trying something different than pierogi, but still 100% Polish? Head for “Piąta ćwiartka” inside Kubicki Arcades of the Royal Castle to try some of the best viscera (i.e. animal parts you would not normally consider eating) out there. The fancy interiors call for equally fancy cuisine; menu includes veal brain, cow tongue, chicken liver and the famous tripe soup, all deliciously prepared to leave you with the task of pondering over the ambiguity of the Polish saying “through the stomach to the heart” (i.e. feed someone well to win them over). Check out the menu in the “Details” link below!

Where: Piąta ćwiartka (The Fifth Quarter) in Kubicki Arcades, entrance from Bugaj and Grodzka Street as well as through the Castle.
