#ART

Polish your British

Late 1980s and 1990s saw the revival of modern art, both in Poland and Great Britsain. Artists from what was later called the group of Young British Artists and representatives of Polish critical art used controversy, provocation and mass media techniques to attract attention and start the discussion on such topics as death, violence, gender and role of the individual in society. Some of them , like Damien Hirst, gained huge popularity.  Thus, contemporary art joined the mainstream got a comfortable spot in popular culture. Polish critical art explored groundbreaking (in the 1990s) topics like religion, national mythology as well as trauma and the gender issues. Some of the works caused protests and fuelled discussion not only in art circles (as was the case of the works of Katarzyna Kozyra) related to questions such as ‘what is art?’, ‘what are the boundaries of artistic expression?’ etc. Try to answer them yourself at Polish Polish British British exhibition.

Best food in town!

This year, the title went to Jung&Lecker, a wine bar serving delicious weekday lunches (for 21 PLN between 12 and 4 PM) with regular menu changing every week (!). Go see for yourself what the town is raving about and check their FB postings (through google translate) to know the lunch of the day. But hurry while the food lasts (lunches might run out by 3 PM). And if they do run out of lunch, be sure to try pear soup with saffron milkcaps instead!

So, let the words dia de muertos / narco satanicos/ dead mafioso / chola girls inspire your dresscode and – come evening time – head for the eeriest building in Warsaw of them all!
