Comets approaching!

Komety is one of the most popular alternative bands in Poland. They get their inspirations from music from the past, which they turn into something very up-to-date. Their texts are very poetic and inspired by their own lives. This Thursday they’ll be presenting new songs from their sixth album, which will be released this autumn. Their popularity is not local: they are invited to play concerts outside Poland and this resulted in them recording albums in English. See what they have come up with this time!

#SIGHTSEEING

Cross the river!

After visiting the Old Town, the Royal Route and Łazienki you may wonder what to do next. One of our suggestions is to follow Aleje Jerozolimskie (with the palm tree) towards the river, walk over one of the oldest and most picturesque bridges (originally built between 1904-1914, destroyed twice, and twice rebuilt), and find yourself on the posh Saska Kępa, home of artists of all sorts – from great poets to soap opera stars, but at the same time an excellent example of pre-war modernist villa district. On your left you’ll have one of the biggest ‘green zones’ of Warsaw – the Skaryszewski Park, where – with luck – you can see a beaver or two. You can also have a look inside the modern National Stadium. The compound is open daily from 10:00AM to 6:00PM. On your right – one of the most pleasant streets in the city, Francuska, with restaurants serving a vast diversity of meals – from African, though Italian, French to Turkish food. Francuska is also lined with cafes that provide a relaxing atmosphere from morning till evening. A great get-away from the annoying traffic and noise of the city center!

#EXHIBITION

The Splendor of Textiles

Don’t be deceived! The Zachęta National Gallery of Art only looks old and historical from the outside. As you enter the building you will find yourself in the world of contemporary art. The currently presented exhibition is entitled The Splendor of Textiles. The aim of the organizers was to return textiles to their rightful place in contemporary art. One of its biggest attractions of the exhibition a giant reconstruction of the space suit worn by the first woman in space, Valentina Tereshkova. How does that correspond to textiles? See for yourself.
