The Polish movie of the year

The first successful heart transplantation in Poland was done in 1985, in the dull times of unequipped hospitals, long queues of desperate people waiting to get just a leaf of bread and permanent invigilation by secret police. The man behind it was Zbigniew Religa, a genius and a workaholic who would oppose both the system and some of his collegues but also comment on the religoius beliefs of his patients and relax with a too much of vodka. See the movie that got all the ‘POlish Oscars’ this year, for the best movie, scenario and an actor in the leading role. The movie is screened in Kinoteka with the English subtitles!

#CONCERT

Swans

On 3 December popular Warsaw music club Basen will be hosting Swans.

Swans is an American experimental rock band originally active from 1982 to 1997, led by singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Michael Gira. The band was one of the few groups to emerge from the early 1980s New York no wave scene and stay intact into the next decade. Formed by Gira in 1982, Swans employed a shifting lineup of musicians until their dissolution in 1997. Besides Gira, the only other constant members were keyboardist/vocalist/songwriter Jarboe from 1984 to 1997, and semi-constant guitarist Norman Westberg. The band became known for its experimental instrumentation and repetitive song structures.
