Night of shooting stars

Ever heard of Perseids? If we wrote ‘The Perseids’ you’d probably expect them to be some Jack-White-wannabe college kids performing some hipster indie:) Meanwhile they’re much closer to the stars you could expect! The Perseids is what is left from the Swift-Tuttle comet: stellar debris that is going to romantically burn in the Earth’s atmosphere resembling what you used to call a shooting star when you were a kid. It may normally be difficult to observe the night sky in the middle of a big city but, hey, we’ve got the Copernicus Centre for Science here! They’ve made sure all the lights around the Centre (including illumination of bridges!) is turned off so that you can count the Perseids and make wishes each time you see one:) There will be blankets prepared and if you get hungry, food trucks will be around so come on!

Jazz on sand

Before you watch the stars, come and listen to some jazz! ‘Jazz on sand’ is a new regular night at Temat Rzeka, an extremely popular riverside beach bar. This Tuesday you can have your cider (and you know Polish apples are anti-Putin now, right?:) #EatPolishApples) listening to JSP Ensemble. To reach Temat Rzeka, cross the river from the city centre on Poniatowskiego bridge and look down: you’ll see a fantastic city beach with plenty people on it. That’s it!

Endless Summer

Do you know this film by Jim Jarmusch? The August selection of Tuesday screenings at Towarzyska in Saska Kępa is inspired by ‘Endless Summer’ and this Tuesday you get a chance to see the 1975 classic starring Al Pacino: Dog Day Afternoon. The film will be subtitled in Polish if that convinces you to come!;) Apart from that, Towarzyska is one of the most laidback cafes in residential, pre-war Saska Kępa so if you’d like to forget the candy Krakowskie Przedmieście for a while, you now get a reason!
