Singing of the walls

The 70th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising once again reminds us of the dramatic struggle for life in Warsaw, full of sacrifice and hope. Warsaw, the capital and the survival of its inhabitants, were fought for by soldiers, women, men and adolescents as well as children …

The Singing of the Walls 44 concert, directed by Jerzy Bielunas, will feature images of those 63 days of struggle, determination, euphoria and youthful enthusiasm which finally faded away. Musically, the concert will be fastened by the popular songs about the beauty of Warsaw. A prominent role in the concert is also played by the constantly changing stage design which allows us to see new spaces at all times: the streets where fighting takes place, the floors of destroyed houses, the cellars and the city sewers, the skeletons of burnt houses, as well as the harmonious, beautiful images of the the pre-war Warsaw and the dynamic shots of the new, reconstructed capital.

Philip Bracken

Philip Bracken is a folk musician hailing from Australia; however, Poland is like a second home for the artist in fact. Having not visited us for a long time, he is now returning to play a series of solo live concerts. Philip Bracken’s creative oeuvre is marked with a wandering spirit which refers to such styles as indie roots, blues and alternative soul. The artist’s low (but nonetheless full of warmth) voice brings associations with pieces by classical songwriters and folk artists such as Nick Drake, Elliott Smith and Ben Harper. In his compositions, Philip Brackens creates musical landscapes which seem near and familiar. Thanks to his sounds and vocals we are given a chance to accompany him on his journey to places we may see with the eyes of our imagination.
